Kirkuk Emergency Feed Barley; $1,800,000
In 2009, the worst drought in 30 years in Northern Iraq produced a economic crisis among local farmers whose crops failed and livestock suffered from lack of nutrition, further depressing their income.

This Emergency Drought Relief project creatively matched a $1.8 million US Government donation with in-kind support from the Iraqi Ministry of Trade and Ministry of Agriculture and Local farmers to purchase 3,700 metric tones of feed barley. The feed barley was sold to local farmers at half the market price which the farmers could afford and at the same time a revenue source for partnership to help expand the capacity of the local grain silo.
