Pedigree Announces Partnership with Petfinder Foundation to Administer Operation Grants Program for Dog Shelters and Rescues. Ongoing; available until all funds are distributed.

Since 2008, the Pedigree Foundation has pursued its mission to help dogs in need find loving homes by making grants to support the work of shelters and rescue organizations in the United States.

Starting this year, the foundation's Operation Grants program will be administered by the Petfinder Foundation. The Pedigree Foundation will continue to administer its Innovation Grant program, which provides larger awards to fund creative new efforts designed to increase dog adoption. (The Innovation Grants program is not accepting applications at the moment.)

To be eligible for an Operation Grant, shelters and rescues must maintain an active free account with Petfinder.com; must provide proof of 501(c)(3) tax-exempt and public charity status; must provide financial and other information to demonstrate sound management practices; must demonstrate proof of organizational stability and program best practices; must demonstrate a collaboration/partnership within the community that promotes, educates, and/or increases awareness of issues that contribute to dog homelessness; must track performance in areas such as intakes, adoptions, returns, transfers, euthanasia, community involvement, etc.; and must be willing to participate in monthly surveys, press outreach, etc. For this year only, prior receipt of a Pedigree Foundation Operation Grant will be a factor in determining recipients.

One-time grants of up to $1,000 will be awarded to fund basic operational expenses (e.g., facility/structure, medical, transportation, spay/neuter, etc.) that contribute to making dogs more adoptable. The total amount available through Operation Grants this year is $150,000.

In years past, an eligible organization could apply for an Operation Grant up until a final deadline and receive a portion of a set amount. This year, monies will only be given based on the stated criteria and in order of applications received until all funds are released for the year. Only one grant per year, per organization is allowed.

Visit the Petfinder Foundation Web site for complete Operation Grant program guidelines, application procedures, and updates.
